Importing and Exporting Flashcards

Bring in flashcards from other sources, share folders with friends, and keep backups safe.

Import from CSV

  1. Open a folder and choose Import CSV.
  2. Paste a CSV or pick a file from your device.
  3. Confirm which columns map to front and back text.
  4. The app generates audio using your selected TTS voice. If the import stalls at 0%, make sure you have set up voices in Settings > Text-To-Speech.

Example file: General Knowledge.csv

Supported audio formats

When importing or adding audio, common formats such as mp3, wav, m4a, and ogg work best.

Importing multiple audio files

There is no bulk import for multiple standalone audio files yet. For large sets, use CSV + text-to-speech, or the advanced import option below.

Import shared folders

Audio Flashcards uses a .share file format for sharing folders.

  1. Open Import Shared Cards from the folder menu.
  2. Select the .share file.
  3. Confirm the import (the app checks for name clashes).

Share a folder

  1. Open a folder and tap Share.
  2. The app packages your folder into a .share file.
  3. Send it through AirDrop, messaging, or cloud storage.

Backup and restore

Backups are full-library exports in a .backup file format.

  1. Go to Settings > Backup to create a backup.
  2. Use Settings > Restore to replace your current library with a backup.

Advanced: manual import of existing audio

For power users, you can prepare a folder on your computer and place it into the app storage. This is not officially supported, so make a backup first.

Required structure:

  • A folder named UUID-* (must end with -*).
  • A card folder named UUID-[] for each card.
  • Each card folder contains audio files and a card.meta.

Minimal card.meta example:

{
"name": "Untitled Card",
"id": "4bb3a59c-f3fa-4e01-af00-9660b64e0c30-[]",
"created": 1624965156329,
"order": [
"64272783-ab41-4ae2-ac54-e62b9ed319a0",
"89ada03c-dcc3-40ca-a7f1-ffa3fb4f1ae8"
]
}

The order values should match your audio filenames without extensions. You can drop this into the cards folder in iCloud on iOS or the app data container on Android.

Marketplace and publishing

You can browse community collections in the Marketplace and download them to your library. If you are an educator or creator, you can set up publisher details and submit folders for review.

Cloud sync (iOS)

If iCloud storage is enabled, your cards can sync across your Apple devices. Check Settings > iCloud Status for sync health and unresolved conflicts.
