Flags & Tags
Folders put each card in one place. Flags and tags cut across folders, so you can gather cards by how they are going or what they are about wherever they live.
Flags or tags?
| Flag | Tags | |
|---|---|---|
| Per card | One, or none. | As many as you like. |
| Answers | How is this card going? | What is this card about? |
| Good for | Needs fixing, Unsure, Ask my teacher. | Topics, sources, exam units, chapters. |
| Organised in | A single list. | Categories, each with a colour. |
Unspecified is a flag that always exists, for when you want to mark a card right now and decide what it means later.
Mark a card
- In the Library: long press a card and use Flag ▸ or Tags ▸.
- On the card: tap the tag button at the top of the card, then pick a flag, Add Tags, or Remove Flag.
- During a review: the same tag button sits in the player's toolbar. This is the one to remember — mark a card the moment it trips you up, keep reviewing, and deal with it later.
A card with a flag shows a flag badge in the Library, and a tagged card shows a tag badge.
Set up flags and tags
Open Settings > Flags & Tags, then choose Flags or Tags at the top. Each row shows how many cards use it.
Flags
- Tap + to create a New Flag, and give it a name and colour.
- Tap a flag to rename it, recolour it, or Delete Flag.
Tags
Tags live inside categories, and a tag takes its colour from its category. For a language course you might have a Grammar category holding Verbs, Articles, and Prepositions.
- Tap + > Category to create a category first, then + > Tag to add tags to it.
- Tap a category's heading to rename it, change its colour, or Delete Category. Its tags move to the first remaining category; if there is none, they are removed from cards.
- Tap a tag to rename it or move it to another category.
- Merge Into Another Tag combines two tags that mean the same thing — every card with the old tag gets the destination tag instead.
- Delete Tag removes the tag from every card that has it.
Flagged Cards and Tagged Cards
At the top level of the Library, open ⋯ > Flagged Cards or ⋯ > Tagged Cards.
Flagged Cards lists one entry per flag. Open a flag to see its cards. From there you can:
- tap Review to review just those cards,
- tap Select to pick several, then Remove Flags or Delete them, or
- long press a card to Open it, Remove Flag, or Delete it.
Long press a flag in the list for Review, Remove All Flags, or Delete Contents.
Tagged Cards shows every tagged card. Tap the filter button to narrow it down: pick one or more tags, then choose whether cards must match Any Tag or All Tags. Review reviews whatever the filter currently shows.
Review switches to the Review tab focused on just those cards; start any session there and it draws only from them, without changing the session itself. It is the quickest way to drill everything tagged Chapter 4 or everything I flagged as tricky. See Focus on a folder or selection.
Pinned collections
Earlier versions of the app could pin Flagged Cards and Tagged Cards to the top of the Library like folders. Pins made then still appear there. Long press one for Open, Review, and Remove from Library; pinned Flagged Cards and Tagged Cards collections also have Pinned Folder Settings, where you can change the colour and, for tags, the title. Removing a pin only removes the shortcut; the cards and their marks are untouched.
New collections can no longer be pinned. Open ⋯ > Flagged Cards or ⋯ > Tagged Cards from the Library instead.
